Our staff are prepared to handle serious emergencies on site and advanced emergency care is available via »Ê¹Ú¶ÄÇò Life Flight helicopter or local ambulance to our sister hospitals, the Level II Trauma Center at »Ê¹Ú¶ÄÇò St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg or the Level I Trauma Center at »Ê¹Ú¶ÄÇò Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Which emergency service do I use?

Wondering whether to use the Emergency Department, »Ê¹Ú¶ÄÇò PromptCare or »Ê¹Ú¶ÄÇò OnCall Urgent Care in-person clinic or virtual visit? 

The  is the best place for treating potentially severe and life-threatening conditions such as heart attack or stroke. 

 clinics can be used for urgent conditions that aren't life-threatening but need to be taken care of right away, such as sprains, skin rashes or a severe sore throat. 

»Ê¹Ú¶ÄÇò OnCall Urgent care, with in-person and virtual visits, can also be used for minor illnesses and injuries. Virtual visits have the added convenience of being available 24/7 from wherever you are. 

When should I go to the Emergency Department?

If you are currently experiencing a medical emergency or a life-threatening situation, please call 9-1-1 immediately.

Non-emergent situations can be handled by making an appointment to be seen at »Ê¹Ú¶ÄÇò Medical Group in Kewanee (Rural Health Clinic) by calling (309) 852-7700.

Visiting the Emergency Department

Your visit to the »Ê¹Ú¶ÄÇò Saint Luke Emergency Department will include:

• Triage – a brief exam to determine priority of care
• Registration – Consent for treatment and confirm personal information
• Exam – Nursing and physician physical exam
• Diagnostics – Lab, X-Ray, CT and/or EKG
• Treatment – individualized on patient needs
• Discharge – Treat and release, hospital admission or transfer to a higher level of care

Information you provide our physicians and staff is very important in developing an accurate diagnosis and providing you with the best treatment. Be thorough in explaining how you feel and the details of your illness, injury or other medical conditions.

Patients discharged from »Ê¹Ú¶ÄÇò Saint Luke will receive individualized instructions to support the healing process.

Special features

Our custom-designed Emergency Department allows us to treat more patients, as well as improve their security, safety and privacy. Here are just a few of the features:

• Cardiac Monitoring
  Every Emergency Department room is equipped to monitor cardiac conditions at all times. Each room is directly visible from the nurses' station.
• Decontamination Room
  In the event of chemical spills or other disasters, this area provides six special showers to aid in quickly and safely removing contaminants from rescue workers, attending staff and patients.
• 12 Exam Rooms
  In addition to private exam rooms, there are two exam rooms large enough to accommodate additional family members and two trauma rooms. These trauma rooms are used for injured patients and can meet the needs for adults and children.
• Enclosed Ambulance Garage
  An enclosed ambulance garage allows for additional comfort for patients during inclement weather.

Quality service

The Emergency Department staff is both Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) trained. Continuing education for the staff is also provided throughout the year.
